How to Make Fluffy American Pancakes: A Step-by-Step Guide


I greatly favor American-style pancakes over traditional crepes. While the enjoyment of "tossing" the pancakes is missed, I believe the eating experience more than compensates for it!

If you're looking for an alternative this pancake Tuesday, here's my recipe!


Ingredients

200g Self Raising Flour

1.5 tsp Baking Powder

1 tbls Castor Sugar

3 Large Eggs

25g Melted Butter

200ml buttermilk (you can use normal milk if you wish)

vegetable oil for cooking


Toppings - I used strawberries, Nutella, Buttercream and Crispies but you can use anything really, keep it simple with maple syrup or get creative with peanut butter!


Method

Seperate the eggs and whislk the whites adding the sugar when they start to thicken. stop when they get to peaks.

Place the remainder dry ingredients in a bowl and add the yolks, gradually add the milk and butter whilst whisking then fold in the whites.


Heat a non stick pan and add a little vegetable oil. Place a spoonful of mixture in the pan and cook and a moderate heat slowly. When the edges start to go golden carefully turn the pancake over carefully.


Cook for a further 2 minutes then remove and place on a clean sheet of kitchen paper.


Stack with your favorite toppings and serve
